Steel Plate Shearing by Metaltech Steel Company
Precision Shearing in the Mid-Ohio Valley
Metaltech Steel Company provides precision steel shearing services for the Mid-Ohio Valley region of Ohio. Shearing is a metal fabricating process used to cut straight lines on flat metal stock. During the shearing process, an upper blade and a lower blade are forced past each other with the space between them determined by a required offset. Normally, one of the blades remains stationary.
With our Accurshear, we cut sheet metal and steel plates up to ten feet wide. We can accomplish shearing cuts from 1/16th of an inch thick up to ½ of an inch thick. Our shearing process produces efficient material removal with the use of precision blades to cut and remove the desired area from the surrounding waste steel (which can be recycled). Material is removed by forcing the blade at high speed and pressure onto the material and a fixed block to cause the unwanted material to fall away. Burrs or uneven areas left at the edges of the cut surface can be polished away to leave a smooth surface, if desired.
Shearing is typically done when the finished product does not have to conform to exacting specifications. However, it is possible to shear the material and then cut or polish it to more precise clearances following the initial shearing action.
